SESSION 2: Advanced Materials for Extreme Applications

Both traditional and new developed materials are working very often in unusual heavy conditions and environments. In these cases the engineering decisions, constructions and technology processes require materials with peculiar crystalline, nano- and microstructures, capable to work in extreme physical, chemical, thermal, mechanical or biological environments. Among the major fields of interest are metals, alloys, ceramics, glasses, polymers, composites, fibers, films, coatings and nano-structured materials, which have extreme physical, chemical, thermal and mechanical properties. This session is focusing also on the behavior of materials under extreme conditions, including the changes of their crystalline and nano-structures, phase-transformations. The applications of materials under extreme conditions are encountered in sectors like machines, tools, ceramics, glasses, thin films, space, aerospace, automotive and marine industry, electronics, energy, construction materials, chemistry and medicine. Material testing methods under extreme environmental conditions are of particular interests also.

The aim of this session is to discuss and share opinions about key areas in materials science and engineering, based on physics, physical chemistry, chemistry and application of fundamental research from every aspect.
